1980s Apache Burden Basket

Monumental Apache burden basket, the largest example we have ever encountered. Expertly woven in 1985 from willow rods and mulberry bark with buckskin leather tassels and metal chimes. The basket flares at the rim and is decorated with repeating figural motifs of deer woven in contrasting natural colors. Traditionally used for gathering and carrying, burden baskets also hold ceremonial significance, with their form and decoration symbolizing abundance, responsibility, and community ties. The sheer scale of this basket makes it a remarkable work of both craftsmanship and cultural artistry.

31” Diameter, 18” Height (not including leather tassels)
Leather Tassels dangle an additional ~14” below the basket.
